Karachi, Jan 29(ANI): Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has asked Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani to take action against the extortion mafia in Karachi.
During a telephonic discussion with Gilani about the overall political situation in Pakistan and the dwindling law and order situation in Punjab, Altaf informed him about the concerns of the business community in Karachi over the rising incidents of extortion in the metropolis.
The anti-social and criminal elements involved in the Lyari gang-war were pressurising the business community to pay extortion money, the Daily Times quoted the MQM chief, as saying.
Those who did not comply with the criminals' demands were threatened that they and their family members would be abducted and murdered, he added.
Altaf asked Gilani to exercise his authority to rid the Karachi business community from the clutches of the criminals.
Gilani assured him that no one would be allowed to intimidate the business community of the industrial and commercial hub of Pakistan, and said the government would solve this issue on priority basis. (ANI)
