Gilani confirms plan to 'rightsize', reshuffle Pakistan's cabinet

Lahore , Sun, 23 Jan 2011 ANI

Lahore, Jan 23(ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has confirmed that his government has taken a decision to cut and reshuffle the federal cabinet.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Gilani said the changes in the cabinet would be made only with the consultation of coalition partners of the PPP-led government.

"No party wants military intervention, Establishment is also pro-democracy," SAMAA TV quoted the PM, as saying.

"For the first time, a pleasant change has taken place in the country that the gap between opposition and government has narrowed," he remarked.

The ten-point agenda set by the Pakistan Muslim League-N was in fact the opposition party's trust on his government, said Gilani.

He, however, noted that the problem of terrorism, which has caused the worst economic losses to the country, was missing from the PML-N programme.

Responding to a question, Gilani said Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would be welcomed in Pakistan whenever he decided to visit the country.

On Saturday, Minister for Law and Justice Babar Awan had said the president and the prime minister had decided to 'rightsize' the federal cabinet to cut down its expenditures. (ANI)
