Islamabad, May 23 (IANS) At least four suspected militants were killed in Pakistan Friday as the army intensified its attacks in the North Waziristan region, media reported.
The four were killed as security forces entered the Machis Camp area on the outskirts of agency headquarters in Miramshah which is considered a stronghold of foreign militants, most of them Uzbeks, Dawn online reported.
Five militants were also arrested during Friday's raid.
Security forces blew up militant bases in the area while artillery and jet fighters struck another insurgent base in Sokhel Wazir.
Local residents around Mir Ali and Miramshah have started moving to safer places.
But there are no camps set up to accommodate internally displaced persons in case of mass movement.
Local tribesmen said that many families shifted to neighbouring Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the curfew in North Waziristan's volatile areas was lifted Thursday for a few hours and some roads were also re-opened.
