German state seeks better trade ties with India

Berlin, May 10 (IANS) The German state of Hesse, which has the largest Indian business community in the country, will do whatever is necessary to increase its bilateral trade ties with India, a minister has said.

Speaking during an India Business Forum event in Frakfurt on the theme 'Indo-German Economic Partnership: The Way Ahead', Al-Wazir, Hesse's minister for economics, energy, transport and regional development, said one of the goals of his government would be to support the growing bilateral trade ties of the state with India.

Launching 'India in Business', a publication of India's externa; affairs ministry,

the German minister also emphasised on the contribution made by Indian companies to the economic prosperity and high level of employment in Hesse, an Indian embassy release from Berlin said.

India's Ambassador to Germany, Vijay Gokhale, underlined the strategic partnership between India and Germany and enumerated the areas of manufacturing, high technology and SME (small and medium enterprises) cooperation as the ones to be targeted in future for realising the true potential of the Indo-German economic partnership.

During a panel discussion, experts from the fields of business, media and government organisations agreed that India was regarded as the future economic powerhouse in Germany.

The panelists hoped for a stable government following the elections in India that would continue to lay emphasis on the Indo-German strategic partnership, to help realise the full potential of the long-standing relationship between the two countries.

The event was organised by the Indian Consulate in Frankfurt together with FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH Wednesday.
