Rio de Janeiro, Feb 6 (IANS) Botafogo advanced to the Copa Libertadores group stage for the first time since 1996 after a Wallyson hat-trick guided them to a 4-0 victory over Deportivo Quito.
The result at the Maracana stadium Wednesday overturned a 0-1 deficit in the first leg of their qualifier in the Ecuadorian capital last week, reports Xinhua.
Wallyson struck his first just before halftime before adding another two in the space of 13 second-half minutes.
Striker Henrique completed the rout with the Brazilian side's fourth goal in the 91st minute.
"This year I'm focused on what I want for me and for Botafogo," Wallyson said after the match. "I have said to everybody that I want to create history with this team."
Botafogo will be drawn alongside Chile's Union Espanola, San Lorenzo of Argentina and Ecuador's Independiente in the Copa Libertadores group phase.
