Anderson surprisingly sets his base price low

New Zealand,Sports, Thu, 30 Jan 2014 IANS

Auckland, Jan 30 (IANS) With the fastest ODI century in his kitty, Corey Anderson will be one of the most sought-after players but the New Zealand all-rounder has raised a few eyebrows as he set his base price at just under $200,000 for next month's Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.

The 23-year-old Anderson is among the 16 New Zealanders who will be a part of 232-strong pool of players, who will up for sale during the two-day auction in Bangalore from Feb 12-13.

Anderson became a household name in international cricket after he struck a world-record 36-ball century against West Indies Jan 1. He broke the 17-year-old record that was made by Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi.

Anderson, who played a stellar show with both bat and the ball in the first two ODIs against India, will certainly be a top draw for Indian franchises despite not being in the top bracket of $320,000 (USD).

The only New Zealanders who are in the top bracket are skipper Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor.

Other New Zealanders, Jesse Ryder, Nathan McCullum and Kyle Mills have set their reserve price at $200,000.

Other Kiwi players Neil Broom, Grant Elliott, James Franklin, Martin Guptill, Mitchell McClenaghan, Adam Milne, Colin Munro, Jimmy Neesham, Jacob Oram, Luke Ronchi, Hamish Rutherford and Tim Southee have the base price $60,000-$100,000.
