Cameron 'extremely concerned' over Brit sentenced to death for blasphemy in Pakistan

Islamabad, Thu, 30 Jan 2014 ANI

Islamabad, Jan. 30 (ANI): British Prime Minister David Cameron has expressed 'deep concern' about a mentally ill Brit sentenced to death in Pakistan for blasphemy.

In reply to a question about Mohammad Asghar's case in parliament, Cameron said that he was extremely serious about the case and making things clear at every level.

According to Dawn News, Mohammad Asghar, from Edinburgh, has been awarded the death sentence for sending letters to officials claiming to be the Prophet Mohammed.

Cameron told lawmakers that he was deeply concerned about the death sentence awarded to Asghar, as Britain opposed death penalty in all circumstances.

Foreign Office minister Sayeeda Warsi spoke to the chief minister of the Punjab and the British High Commissioner in Islamabad was also pursuing Asghar's case, Cameron said.

Foreign Office officials were also meeting with officials from Pakistan's High Commission in London on Wednesday, the report added. (ANI)
