Damascus, Jan 22 (IANS) The airport in restive Aleppo in northern Syria resumed operations after the army recaptured its surrounding areas from rebel fighters.
Xinhua cited the state-run SANA news agency as saying Wednesday that the airport had been out of service due to rebel attacks, adding the part damaged by "terrorists' attacks" had been reconstructed.
In February, 2013, the rebels in Aleppo launched what they called "Wars of Airports", attacking several military airbases near the city, including the brigade responsible for the airport's security.
Since January, the Syrian army has recaptured six towns near the airport.
The rebels in Syria have started to lose momentum after infighting erupted between ultra-radical rebels and less extremist groups, leading to the Syrian troops winning many battles on several fronts in the war-torn country.
