Dhaka, Jan 16 (IANS) Repolling in 390 centres of seven out of eight parliamentary constituencies of Bangladesh ended without any major trouble Thursday. Ballotting was postponed in these centres during the Jan 5 parliamentary elections.

The voting started at 8 a.m. amid dense fog and continued till 4 p.m. in the constituencies, located in five districts, which witnessed violence and disruption during the Jan 5 parliamentary elections, forcing the Election Commission to order repolling, reported bdnews24.com.

Repolling was held in Dinajpur-4, Bogra-7, Gaibandha-1, 3 and 4, Jessore-5 and Lakshmipur-1 constituencies.

But the repolling could not be held in two centres of Kurigram-4 constituency Thursday because of a high court order.

A strike was called Thursday in the Bogra constituency, while police detained six people from a centre in Lakshmipur constituency.

Election Commission officials said no trouble had been reported from any polling station until 4 p.m.

At least 20 policemen were stationed in each polling centre.

Many polling stations witnessed almost no voter in the morning due to heavy fog and cold, but the numbers increased as the day progressed, an Election Commission officer said.

During the Jan 5 elections, the voter turnout was around 40 percent in 292 constituencies.

Poll officials expected above 50 percent turnout in Thursday's re-polling.
