Shanghai, Jan 13 (IANS) A man was put on trial in a court in east China's Shanghai city Monday for allegedly killing six people and injuring four others with guns and an iron pipe in June last year.
The defendant, Fan Jieming, 63, was charged with murder, robbery and forcible seizure, illegal purchase and possession of guns, Xinhua reported citing the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court.
The trial opened at around 9.30 a.m. and continued Monday afternoon.
On June 22, Fan allegedly beat a colleague surnamed Zhang to death at a chemical factory in the city's Baoshan district over a dispute.
He then took a hunting rifle hidden in his dormitory and asked a driver to drive him to a different district. He gunned down the driver on the way and then drove away with the vehicle, according to prosecutors.
The prosecution said he then killed a guard at the gate of a nearby military barrack and took the soldier's gun. After returning to the plant, he allegedly killed three more people with his rifle.
Fan also allegedly injured three people seriously and left another with minor injuries during the killing spree.
He was captured by police, who were at the factory investigating the case later on the night of the crime.
