Iran parliamentarian criticises US

Tehran, Dec 16 (IANS) A senior member of the Iranian parliament Monday urged world powers to clear lines with the US, which he described as a discordant member, on dealing with Iran.

Criticising the recent move against Iran, Rapporteur of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hossein Naqavi Hosseini told IRNA that the US's new anti-Iran move "is clearly against the Geneva deal and allows Iran to leave its commitments consequently".

Iran and the Group P5+1 -- the US, Russia, France, Britain and China plus Germany - reached a first step nuclear deal in Geneva Nov 24, based on which no new sanctions should be imposed on Iran within next six months.

However, the US Treasury Department Dec 12 blacklisted additional Iranian companies and individuals to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear technology.

Analysts and some foreign officials believe that the anti-Iran move is a serious threat for the Iran-P5+1 nuclear deal.

"The move indicates that the US is not committed to the deal," Hosseini added.

Noting that all signatories to the Geneva deal should act based on their commitments, Hosseini said, "If they were not able to act with coordination, then why they took part in the talks?"

Referring to the US as a deal-breaking, hegemonic, and untrustworthy country, Hosseini said Washington was pursuing a double standard policy towards Iran.
