Landmark British racist ruling allows Oz protestor to stay back

Sydney, Tue, 10 Dec 2013 ANI

Sydney, Dec. 10 (ANI): In a racist landmark judgment, Australian boat race protester Trenton Oldfield has been allowed to stay in the United Kingdom for making a positive contribution to the society.

An immigration tribunal judge, Judge Kevin Moore, said that he would allow Oldfield's appeal to stay back in the UK, when an official determination will be made on it in the coming 10 days, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Oldfield had appealed a decision of Home Secretary Theresa May to refuse a spousal visa to him and deport him on the basis that his presence in Britain was "not conducive to the public good".

Oldfield said at the hearing that if he was deported from the UK, his British wife and five-month-old baby daughter wouldn't move to Australia with him as it is a "racist country".

The 37-year-old activist has lived in the UK for more than 10 years now and has never gone to Australia with his family, the report added. (ANI)
