Khurshid was accompanied by Bahrain's Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.

Covering approximately 7,800 square metres, the building will contain staff quarters, a library, a consular hall and an auditorium.

The plot was purchased by the Indian government in 2005.

The new embassy complex will cost around 2.8 million Bahraini dinar (about $7.4 million) and will take about 15 months to complete.
