Sydney, Nov. 14 (ANI): Syria's chemical arsenals disarmament experts are well on schedule, an international chemical weapons watchdog official said.
Deputy Director General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Grace Asiwartham, said that the cooperation of Syrian officials and member states have enabled the disarmament experts to maintain the pace in disposing of Syria's declared chemical stockpiles by the mid-2014 deadline, News.com.au reports.
According to the report, the experts now have a clear idea of the size and scope of operations required to dismantle Syria's chemical weapons programme, after inspecting 22 out-of-the-23 disclosed locations.
Asiwartham reinstated that despite growing dangers faced by the inspection teams in war-torn Syria, they will continue to perform their brave mission.
OPCW inspectors were prevented from accessing one of the declared sites near the central city of Homs due to unrest, the report added. (ANI)
