Syria military jets strike Lebanon border town

Lebanon,Defence/Security, Thu, 14 Nov 2013 IANS

Beirut, Nov 14 (IANS) Syrian military jets Thursday launched three air raids on the outskirts of Lebanon's Arsal border town in the east Bekaa, a local security source said.

A Syrian military helicopter conducted two raids in the Wadi Ata region on the outskirts of Arsal, launching six rockets while a second Syrian jet targeted the same area with three rockets, Xinhua reported citing the source.

Seven houses were damaged during the raids, but no casualties or injuries were reported.

Arsal, a Sunni town on the border with Syria, has witnessed a series of events related to the rebellion against the administration of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, as it has been notorious for being a centre of smuggling weapons and armed men into Syria.

Currently, it hosts more than 25,000 Syrian refugees.

The Syrian Air Force carried out similar air raids in March, June, July, August and October on the outskirts of the same town that shares common border with Syria.

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman condemned the raids, saying it is a "blatant violation of Lebanon's sovereignty".
