Sydney, Nov. 9 (ANI): Ecaudor's President Rafael Correa has reportedly claimed that Britain is violating the human rights of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange by not allowing him to leave London.

Assange has been holed up in the Ecuadorean embassy in London for more than a year and Correa said that the activist's future was in the hands of Britain.

The president further said that if the authorities keeps him holed up for another 30 years, he will stay there but that would violate his human rights, news.com.au reports.

Correa reiterated that his offer to grant Assange an asylum was open adding that he had the right to demand asylum in the country of his choice.

Assange has been accused of heading the WikiLeaks' publication of a huge trove of classified US military and diplomatic documents for which he faces US extradition possibly leading to a death penalty.

He also faces sexual assault charges in a separate case and is wanted in Sweden for probe, to which Correa suggested, that the activist could answer Sweden prosecutors' questions by video link.

The report said that Ecuador has threatened to sue Britain in an unspecified international court over the status of Assange if it rejects a proposal to submit the matter to a bilateral commission. (ANI)
