Pak opposition parties term Nawaz's US visit 'political gimmickry'

Islamabad, Fri, 25 Oct 2013 ANI

Islamabad, Oct. 25 (ANI): Pakistan's main opposition parties have played down Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's visit to the United States.

Some labelled it as a political gimmick to satisfy the domestic audience on key issues while others termed it a mere photo opportunity and courtesy call.

According to the Nation, the Pakistan People's Party termed the raising of the drones issue as a mere political slogan.

Another opposition party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf said that Sharif did not raise the drone issue with vigour and intensity.

The Jamaat-e-Islami, an influential religio-political party, questioned whether Sharif had even raised key issues like drone strikes with the same intensity as being drummed up in the media.

On the Kashmir issue, PPP central leader Taj Haider was not much optimistic about any breakthrough by this parley between the two leaders.

PTI Central Information Secretary Shireen Mazari said it was unfortunate that Sharif failed to convey categorically Islamabad's message to Obama to stop drone strikes.

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munawwar Hassan said though the incumbent government successfully created much hype about the 90-minute Obama-Nawaz meeting, but it was just a 'photo session'.

About drone strikes, Munawwar questioned the evidence of raising the matter of drones with Obama.(ANI)
