Manama Oct. 22 (ANI): The decision to bar homosexual and transgender foreigners from working in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries has not yet been adopted, a senior Kuwaiti official has said.
Khalid Al Jarallah, the foreign ministry undersecretary, said that it is a mere proposal that Kuwait will present to fellow GCC members in order to look into the possibility of amending the medical checkup rules for foreigners wishing to work and live in Gulf countries.
According to Gulf News, he said that the proposal will be debated and it may or may not be accepted.
The debate will reflect the keen interest of the GCC countries in human rights taking into consideration the teachings of religion and international agreements.
The proposal is due to be discussed by the GCC states, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, in November. (ANI)
