Lagos, Oct 12 (IANS) Some 810 Nigerian soldiers have been trained for the peacekeeping mission in Sudan's Darfur region by the Nigerian Army Peace Keeping Centre, a top military official said Friday.

The commandant of the center, Salihu Uba said at the graduation at the 342 Battalion in Jaji in north central Kaduna State that 43 officers and 767 other ranks were involved in the training, Xinhua reported.

Uba said the battalion had undergone four weeks of intensive training to prepare them for the UN peacekeeping operations.

This training and preparation were specifically tailored toward effective operations in Darfur, he said, adding that the knowledge and leadership qualities exhibited by both officers and soldiers were encouraging.

"I have no doubt in my mind that these will reflect on the conduct of the unit in the theater of operations," he said.
