Washington, Oct. 9 (ANI): The government of Myanmar has reportedly released 56 political prisoners in a presidential amnesty.
A government official said that the prisoners were released from a dozen prisoners and most were charged under an unlawful association law.
According to CNN, President Thein Sein had announced in July that there will be no prisoners of conscience in Myanmar by the end of the year.
Sein stressed a month later that individuals found guilty of committing violent crimes for political reasons should still serve their sentences, the report added. (ANI)
