Russia, Bulgaria, Iran slice golds in wrestling worlds

Budapest, Sep 22 (IANS) No one country demonstrated overwhelming superiority in Saturday's Wrestling World Championships, with gold medalists from Bulgaria, Iran and Russia in Greco-Roman events, Xinhua reports.

Russia came closest to dominating the field with a gold in the 96kg category and a silver in the 60kg category. Azerbeijan and Hungary are the other two countries who had two team members to reach the podium. Azerbeijan won a silver in 84kg and a bronze in 96kg categories. Hungary took two bronzes, in the 84 and 96kg categories.

In 60kg final, Ivo Angelov of Bulgaria won gold by defeating silver medalist Ivan Kuylakov of Russia 3-2. Seung-Jae Woo of South Korea and Elmurat Tasmuradov of Uzbekistan shared bronze.

In 84kg final, Iran's Taleb Nematpour won gold over silver medalist Saman Tahmasebi of Azerbeijan with a 5-3 victory. Javid Hamzatou of Belarus and Viktor Lorincz of Hungary shared third.

In 96kg final, Russia's Nikita Melnikov on gold by beating Armenian Artur Aleksanyan who won silver. The score was 2-2 but Aleksznyan had more passivity warnings. Balazs Kiss of Hungary and Shalva Gadabadze of Azerbaijan shared bronze.

Sunday marks the final day of competition at the Wrestling World Championships, with finals in the Greco-Roman 66, 74 and 120kg events.
