Karzai promises upcoming elections to be fair

Beijing , Tue, 17 Sep 2013 ANI

Beijing, Sept. 17 (ANI): Afghan President Hamid Karzai has reportedly promised that the upcoming elections will be fair and be held as per slated schedule of April 5, 2014.

Karzai said that the country is determined to hold a free, fair and transparent presidential and provincial councils election adding that security must be ensured for the important national event.

The president further promised that all political parties can have their candidates running in the coming polls.

According to media reports, the remarks came as war-weary Afghans feared that the election will not be held on time due to increased security incidents across the country.

Officials within the election commission said that insecurity and difficult terrain in parts of the mountainous country, where the election materials is difficult to be carried, remain the main challenges for the polls. (ANI)
