St. Petersburg, Sep 6 (ANI): India has condemned the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria and anywhere else in the world.
Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, who was talking to media here, said that during the dinner hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin for G 20 leaders last night, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said that India supports the view of ascertaining the facts on what happened in Syria before taking any action against it.
He said, the countries should wait for the UN Inspection report and in case the report verifies the use of chemical weapon, action should be taken under the auspices of United Nations only. Dr Singh said, the violation of any international law by Syria should be dealt by United Nations.
Ahluwalia, while talking on the issue of agreement by the BRICS nations for the creation of a 100 billion dollar fund, said that the reserve pooling arrangement will help in boosting market sentiments.
"India already has 280 billion dollar reserve of its own plus it has currency swapping arrangement of 115 billion dollars with Japan," he said.
BRICS leaders, who met yesterday ahead of the formal opening of the G20 Summit in St. Petersburg, noted the continued slow pace of the recovery, high unemployment in some countries, and on-going challenges and vulnerabilities in the global economy, particularly in advanced economies.
BRICS leaders emphasized that the eventual normalization of monetary policies needs to be effectively and carefully calibrated and clearly communicated. They also expressed their concern with the stalling of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reform process. (ANI)
