Putin demands 'convincing' proof of chemical weapons use in Syria

Sydney, Thu, 05 Sep 2013 ANI

Sydney, Sept. 5 (ANI): Russia will be ready to act in the most decisive and serious way in Syria if the West presents compelling evidence of chemical weapons use in the war-torn country, President Vladimir Putin has said.

Putin has demanded the West to present watertight evidence of chemical weapons crimes, but warned the use of force without United Nations approval would be an aggression.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, in an interview with state-run Channel One television ahead of the G20 summit in Saint Petersburg this week, Putin adopted a more conciliatory position on the Syria crisis.

Putin appeared unconvinced by US assertions that the Syrian regime was behind a chemical attack outside Damascus on August 21 that left hundreds dead.

He said the West had to present 'convincing' evidence to the UN Security Council.(ANI)
