Sydney, Sept. 2 (ANI): The Sri Lankan Government has accused the United Nations Human Rights chief Navi Pillay of making political statements regarding the country at the end of her week-long fact-finding mission on war crimes.
The reaction came a day after Pillay said that Sri Lanka was becoming more authoritarian.
The government said that the High Commissioner's observation that Sri Lanka 'is showing signs of heading in an increasingly authoritarian direction' is a political statement on her part.
According to news.com.au, the government said her statement "clearly transgresses her mandate and the basic norms which should be observed by a discerning international civil servant".
The government added that the judgment on the leadership of the country is better left for the people of Sri Lanka to decide, than being caricatured by external entities influenced by vested interests, the report added. (ANI)
