Chinese men suspects in Afghanistan attack

China,Crime/Disaster/Accident,Indo-Pak/Pakistan, Tue, 13 Aug 2013 IANS

Beijing, Aug 13 (IANS) Two Chinese men, reportedly abducted during last Thursday's attack in Afghanistan's capital city, were involved in the plot which left three other Chinese killed, Afghan officials have said.

An Afghan guard was also found dead at the site.

One of the Chinese men escaped and visited a NATO-led facility and later met with Chinese officials, reported Global Times Tuesday citing Stars and Stripes, a Department of Defense-authorized daily newspaper distributed overseas for the US military community.

According to Sediq Sediqqi, spokesperson for Afghanistan's interior ministry, the two Chinese men who went missing after the attack had fled the scene and were suspects.

One of them was being interrogated by Afghan police, he added. "It could be an internal issue because there is no indication of terrorism."

Sediqqi said the police were still searching for the other Chinese man who went missing.

The Chinese embassy, however, said it has no information related to the Stars and Stripes report.
