Egypt denies Israel's bomb attack in Sinai

Egypt,Defence/Security, Sat, 10 Aug 2013 IANS

Cairo, Aug 10 (IANS) Egyptian armed forces Friday denied media reports saying Israel bombed a Jihadists rocket base in Egypt's Sinai city but they said one person was killed during an explosion in Rafah in North Sinai, state media said.

"Egypt sky is totally secured and nothing could infiltrate the Egyptian airspace," reported Xinhua citing armed forces spokesperson Ahmed Ali. The armed forces, however, combed the site of explosion to find out the evidences and hold investigations. But the forces could only find a motor cycle near the dead body.

Earlier Friday, state-run Ahram Website reported Israel has bombed a rocket base belonging to a hardline Jihadist militant group in Rafah city in Egypt's North Sinai, killing at least five people.

It said an Israeli unmanned aerial vehicle bombed the base after Israel had received tips suggesting that the militants would fire a rocket Friday afternoon into the Jewish state, a source said.

The spokesperson described it illogical "that there is coordination between Egypt and Israel to hold attacks in regard to preserving security on the Egyptian lands".

Ali also urged the media channels to stick to accuracy when circulating news that could have dangerous impact over its national security.
