Rio de Janeiro, Aug 10 (IANS) A planned friendly tournament between Brazil and Argentina later this year has been scrapped.
The so-called Superclassic of the Americas, played home and away over two legs, had been tentatively earmarked for Sep 19 and Oct 3, reports Xinhua.
The decision came after Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari reportedly told Brazil's Football Confederation (CBF) he saw little point in a tournament that did not include foreign-based players.
Brazil have a loaded international calendar in the second half of 2013 with confirmed friendlies against Switzerland, Australia and Portugal.
The CBF are soon expected to confirm fixtures for another four FIFA-approved dates in 2013.
