'Goal-line technology a must in future'

China,Sports, Fri, 02 Aug 2013 IANS

Jinan (China), Aug 2 (IANS) Former England football coach Sven-Goran Eriksson says he welcomes the introduction of goal-line technology.

"We must have it in football, but not for this match," said Eriksson, who took over Guangzhou R&F in June, after his team lost 0-2 to Shandong Luneng in a Chinese Super League match Thursday, reports Xinhua.

Shandong Luneng sealed the win with goals from Roda Antar (47th minute) and Brazilian Gilberto Macena (51st minute).

Antar's opener was reminiscent of the 2010 World Cup match between England and Germany when England's Frank Lampard was denied a clear goal after a shot crossed the line by several inches only to be disallowed.

"I can't see the goal from the bench, but you can't say anything related to refereeing," said Eriksson.

Nigerian Yakubu managed shots several times for Guangzhou, but his efforts were all in vain.

"We created chances, but they created more. Nothing to complain," said Eriksson.

Regarding the performance of Aussie Eddie Bosnar, who transferred to R&F July 18, Eriksson said he was satisfied.

"This is his first game at CSL; he did ok, and he will do better and better," said the 64-year-old Swede.

Goal-line technology was tested at the Confederations Cup in June in Brazil and it will be adopted in the English Premier League next season and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
