Washington , Thu, 01 Aug 2013 ANI

Washington, Aug. 1 (ANI): The United Nations said Wednesday that civilian deaths and injuries increased by 23 per cent in Afghanistan during the first six months of this year.

According to CNN, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan in its report said that the increase in deaths and injuries this year was mainly driven by the increased use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The report said that civilian deaths increased 14 percent from the first six months of 2012 to 1,319, while injuries rose 28 percent to 2,533.

It found that nearly three-quarters of all civilian casualties in the first half of the year resulted from actions by anti-government groups, notably the Taliban, the report added. (ANI)
