New York, July 28 (ANI): French ocean pioneer Jacques Cousteau's grandson is scheduled to conduct marine research aboard and around Aquarius, an undersea human habitat offshore from Florida, for the entire month of October.
Fabien Cousteau and his research team intend to spend 31 days submerged nine miles offshore Key Largo, Fla, for a scientific research, called Mission 31, the New York Daily News reported.
The perilous plunge marks the 50th anniversary of his grandfather's game-changing 31-day underwater living experiment, more than 30 feet beneath the Red Sea in 1963.
The ocean explorer, who will be studying the effect of climate change on marine life and their own physiological changes from living beneath the ocean, revealed to the publication that it is a very extreme environment, not to be taken lightly.
Aquarius, their salt-stained home base which is 63 feet below the surface and where the pressure is 2.5 times stronger than above water, is the planet's only permanent underwater laboratory.
The crew will record this extended stay around the clock and share their progress in real-time via Facebook, Twitter, The Weather Channel and Skype. Afterward, Cousteau intends to produce an IMAX documentary about their journey and findings. (ANI)
