Damascus, July 24 (IANS) A UN team arrived here Wednesday on a two-day visit to meet Syrian officials regarding a UN planned probe into alleged use of chemical weapons during ongoing Syrian crisis.
The head of UN chemical weapons investigation team, Ake Sellstrom of Sweden, and UN disarmament chief Angela Kane will visit Syrian foreign ministry and meet officials, reported Xinhua citing UN sources.
The UN visit has come following the Syrian government's invitation.
The UN fact-finding mission, set up in March following a formal request from the Syrian government, will investigate an incident involving the alleged use of chemical weapons at the Khan al-Asal town in Aleppo.
Twenty-five people were killed and 130 wounded March 19 when the armed men fired a rocket stuffed with chemical materials at Khan al-Asal.
The Syrian government accused opposition fighters of being behind the chemical weapon attack. The rebels denied the allegation while pointing their fingers at the government.
