Donetsk (Ukraine), July 13 (IANS/CMC) Jamaican sprint hurdler Yanique Thompson has smashed a 14-year record and bagged her country's first gold medal at the IAAF World Youth Championships (WYC) here.

The 17-year-old stopped the clock in an amazing 12.94 seconds to win the 100m hurdles at the RSC Olympiyskiy Friday, reports CMC.

Thompson has become the first Jamaican 100m hurdles gold medallist at the WYC, and the first to hold a world record in the event at any level, after bettering Adrianna Lamalle's 13.08, which was set in 1999.

"It's amazing!" exclaimed a stunned Thompson.

"I wanted to get that gold medal. This is my last year as a junior and I didn't want to leave without something."
