Brit-Indian honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani 'fit to travel' to S. Africa for trial

London , Tue, 02 Jul 2013 ANI

London, July 2 (ANI): Indian-origin British businessman Shrien Dewani, who is accused of killing his wife Anni during their honeymoon in South Africa, is fit to be released from a mental hospital and extradited to South Africa for hearing.

Dewani is being treated for depression and post-traumatic stress disorder after his 28-year-old wife was murdered in Cape Town in 2010.

According to the Mirror, lawyers for the South African government insisted that Dewani's state of mind had significantly improved in recent months and he could be extradited for hearing to South Africa, where he is wanted over Anni's murder.

Dewani, 33, is still not deemed fit to plead but Hugo Keith QC, representing the South African authorities, said this should not stop the extradition process, the report said.

Keith told Westminster magistrates court in Central London that Dewani, who is being treated at a hospital near his home in Bristol, has begun to prepare himself for a trial in South Africa, it added. (ANI)
