United Kingdom,Sports, Fri, 07 Jun 2013 IANS

Kingston (Jamaica), June 7 (IANS/CMC) Jamaica has recruited the services of Los Angeles Clippers centre Ryan Hollins for this year's Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) World Championships.

"We have confirmed that he is Jamaican and his agent Todd Ramsarar has told us that it is okay for him to represent Jamaica," said Ajani Williams, president of the Jamaica basketball Association (JBA).

"We are now moving forward with his paperwork in terms of registration for the championships."

The Americas' qualifiers will be held in Caracas, Venezuela, from Aug 30 to Sep 11.

The 28-year-old Hollins, who stands at 7ft, averaged 3.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in 60 games for the Clippers this season.

"He will be a great fit for us. He is a seven-foot centre and the fact of the matter is that he is an NBA (National Basketball Association) player, and is a centre," Williams told the Gleaner

"You can't buy the height, and the fact that he has made it to the NBA is a great achievement, and so we know that he can play the game."
