B'desh factory collapse teen survivor lands new job at five-star hotel

London , Fri, 07 Jun 2013 ANI

London, June 7 (ANI): A teenage girl, who survived a factory collapse in Bangladesh after being trapped under the rubble for 17 days, has been given a new job at a five-star hotel.

Reshma Begum, 19, had vowed never to return to work in a garment factory after she was rescued from the wreckage of the eight-storey Rana Plaza building, where 1,129 people were killed in April.

After being in hospital for almost a month, Begum has accepted a job at Westin Hotel in Dhaka. Happy at being offered the job, Begum said she would try her best to learn, reports Sky News.

Begum, who earned 4,700 takas (approximately 39 pounds) a month as a seamstress at one of the factories in Rana Plaza, suffered a head injury in the collapse.

She survived in the refuge beneath the rubble by rationing out cookies and water she had with her.

The tragedy, which happens to be the world's worst ever clothing industry disaster, has created global pressure for reform in the Bangladeshi garment industry. (ANI)
