New Delhi, June 4 (ANI): An Earth Anthem, written and produced by poet-diplomat Abhay Kumar was released by Kapil Sibal, Union Minister of Information Technology and Law and Justice, at a function organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations in New Delhi.

The anthem has been sung by a talented Nepali singer Shreya Sotang.

The writer has tried to pay tribute to mother Earth through his anthem.

He said it would make us more aware of our global citizenship and the responsibility that comes with it.

"We do not have an anthem for mother Earth, our planet to whom all of us belong, to whom we owe all our riches, glories. That's why I thought that we need an anthem for the planet and I tried my best to write an anthem, produce it. It has been sung by a very talented singer Shreya Sotang from Nepal," said Abhay Kumar.

The Earth Anthem is mainly in English while some parts are in Arabic, Chinese, French, Hindi, Nepali, Russian and Spanish.

The music has been composed by Sapan Ghimire from Darjeeling. A short film on the Earth anthem was also screened at the launch.

"Earth Anthem is a film which shows the diversity of our planet, we are not the only species who inhabit this planet, we have to share it with million other species and we should have a song, we should have an anthem for all of them where their voices are also included," said Abhay Kumar.

Kapil Sibal appreciated the efforts of Abhay K while adding that it is the need of the hour to give our planet an identity.

Dr. Shashi Tharoor, who was also present on the occasion, praised the consistent efforts made by Abhay Kumar to inspire planetary consciousness among people and thanked ICCR for supporting the noble cause. (ANI)
