An easy decision for Mourinho to return as Chelsea manager

United Kingdom,Sports, Tue, 04 Jun 2013 IANS

London, June 4 (IANS) Jose Mourinho said it was an easy decision for him to return as Chelsea manager for a second spell in his career.

Mourinho Monday signed a four-year contract with his former club where he won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups in his first period in charge between 2004 and 2007, reports Xinhua.

"It was an easy decision," the 50-year-old Portuguese told Chelsea TV. He will be officially presented in a press conference June 10.

"I met the boss, the owner, and I think within five minutes after some short and pragmatic questions we decided straight away. I asked the boss do you want me back, and the boss asked me do you want to come back, and in a couple of minutes the decision was made."

Originally appointed at Stamford Bridge in 2004, after winning Europe's top competition with Portuguese club Porto, Mourinho quickly achieved success in England football with those five trophies. Under his term, Chelsea became one of the "big four" in the Premier League.

Since leaving Chelsea in 2007, when he left the Blues with mutual consent despite having several years left on his contract, Mourinho coached Italian side Inter Milan and Spanish giants Real Madrid, winning three domestic league championships, two domestic cups and the Champions League.

"It was a difficult moment, September 2007, because I love it here and I have a big connection with the club, and also for the club it wasn't easy," Mourinho recalled the departure.

"But if you analyse it in a cool way, emotions apart, it was fantastic because my career after that, I had everything I was aiming for in my career. I wanted to win the grand slam, to win in England, Spain and Italy. I did it. I got all the trophies in three countries. I got my second Champions League too."

The top three clubs in England's top-flight league, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, will all be under new management next season. Mourinho said the top competition would not be only restricted among the trio.

"In this moment I think you can put five or six teams in the same plan, aiming at the start to reach the Champions League spots which is very difficult, and with more ambition to win the Premier League, and so the competition will be fantastic. I hope I can beat the competition."
