Zardari won't contest for another presidential term

Islamabad, Sun, 02 Jun 2013 ANI

Islamabad, June 2 (ANI): Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari wil not be contesting elections for another term after his current five-year term expires in September.

Zardari's Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was defeated during the elections in the May general elections, and hence the party is not in a position to have its candidate for the office of president elected, reports The Nation.

He earlier claimed that 'conspiracies' hatched by national and international institutions led to the PPP's defeat in the general elections, adding that he would take active part in politics after his presidential tenure expires.

Former US ambassador to Pakistan, Cameron Munter had said that Zardari has 'failed' as party chief and as president, adding that Nawaz Sharif has emerged as a strong leader.

Munter further said that he had yet to decide whether he wanted to indulge in political wrangling or focus on economy, good governance and improving relations with India. (ANI)
