Syrian opposition group refuses participation in proposed US-Russia peace talks

Johannesburg , Fri, 31 May 2013 ANI

Johannesburg, May 31(ANI): Syrian opposition group, The National Coalition, has refused to take part in the proposed US-Russia peace talk over the ongoing war between key allies of President Bashar al-Assad and the government forces.

The group's chief George Sabra said that the coalition would not take part in any international conference as long as the militias of Iran Hezbollah continue invasion in Syria, reports News24.

According to the report the Geneva-2 peace conference proposed by Moscow and Washington is hoped to end the more than two years of conflict, which has claimed lives of more than 94,000 people.

The coalition's decision of its exclusion from the peace talks comes in the light of Syrian army advancing in areas where Lebanese Shi'ite militia group Hezbollah has joined troops loyal to Assad and government troops and Hezbollah fighters have been battling for more than a week to retake Qusayr from rebel hands.

Sabra said that international conferences or political solution at the time of such savagery is 'meaningless chatter' further calling on the United Nations and the Arab League to 'act immediately' and stop the 'continuous massacre'.

The coalition chief reiterated a call to Lebanese President Michel Sleiman to stop Hezbollah from aiding Assad's troops, the report added. (ANI)
