Indian origin woman in Trinidad sells winning lottery ticket

Port of Spain, May 17 (IANS) An Indian-origin woman in Trinidad & Tobago, who sold a winning lottery ticket, stands to get a part of the 20.4 million Trinidadian dollars (approx $3.17 mn).

An official of this country's National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB) said Kamla Bhooklal was entitled to "a fixed percentage of the prize money", the Trinidad & Tobago Express reported Friday.

However, the winner has remained a mystery with no one coming forward to claim the prize till the news report was filed.

The NLCB official said the winner has 180 days to claim the money.

Bhooklal, who sold the ticket with the winning numbers 3, 15, 19, 25, 32 and P9 from her booth at Ste Madeleine on this Caribbean island, however, guesses that the winner must be a working class man like a taxi driver, construction worker or a police officer.

"I sold a lot of tickets that day and I hardly looked at the customers because the lines were long," she was quoted as saying.

"I doubt it was anyone from Ste Madeleine, but I think maybe it was a construction worker, a policeman or a taxi-driver. Or maybe someone just passing through who wanted to take a chance at the jackpot. And I definitely believe it was a man."

Bhooklal, who bought the NLCB online betting machine only six months back, said she couldn't believe it when she got the news.

"My brother-in-law called me and said 'You very lucky girl. The lucky winning ticket was sold here by you'. I didn't believe him. Later someone from NLCB called and officially informed me," she said.

Congratulating the winner, she also sent a message: "You have a chance to do good with the money, so do your best."
