Controversial Labour peer quits from party ahead of hearing on 'Jewish conspiracy'

London , Tue, 14 May 2013 ANI

London, May 14 (ANI): A British Muslim peer Lord Ahmed has resigned from the Labour Party ahead of a disciplinary hearing on charges that he made anti-Semitic comments about a Jewish conspiracy.

The hearing before the Labour's ruling National Executive Committee required Lord Ahmed to answer allegations about his blame on Jewish lawyers and media who he accused for being responsible for the length of a prison term he received for causing a fatal car crash, The Independent reports.

Lord Ahmed claimed that he is 'very disappointed' at the way his party has handled matters, adding that he does not want to 'appear before any kangaroo court where the rules of justice had been denied'.

Lord Ahmed said he could not remember or believe making the alleged remarks, though he does not have 'any explanation' for speaking in such terms. (ANI)
