Melbourne, May 12 (Xinhua-ANI): The statistics released by the 14th Save the Children's State of the World's Mothers report showed that Australia has reached the top 10 best countries to be a mother around the world this year, local media reported on Sunday.
Save the Children is an international charity, which was established in the United Kingdom in 1919 to provide support and help for children in developing countries.
The international charity's annual report compared the latest data on women's health, children's health, educational standards, economic conditions and female political participation to rank 176 countries globally and showed where are the best and worst places for becoming a mother.
Australia is also the best place in the southern hemisphere to be a mother, and is the only non-European country in the top 10 ranks, the report said.
According to the report, Finland is ranked as top one on the list, followed by Sweden, Norway, Iceland, the Netherlands and Denmark, Spain, Belgium and Germany.
Among the Asia Pacific area, Singapore followed Australia as the second best place to be a mother in the region, which positioned as 15 on the list worldwide.
Data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) in 2011 showed that the median age at childbirth for Australian Women is 30.6 years old and every mother has approximately 1.9 babies on the average.
In terms of the physical, financial and social situation, the more stable and stronger the mothers are, their children are more likely to survive and thrive, the report said.
The report also suggested that the educational situation of mothers would have the prominent influence on being a mother.
On the other hand, the report indicated that countries listed at the end such as Democratic Republic of Congo Somalia and Sierra Leone need to improve their health care and educational conditions for women to have a healthier life. (Xinhua-ANI)
