Democrats have slight edge over Republicans in 2014 congressional elections: Poll

Washington, Thu, 02 May 2013 ANI

Washington, May. 2 (ANI): Democrats have a slight edge over Republicans in the 2014 congressional elections, a new poll has found.

The Quinnipiac University survey found that nearly 42 percent of voters said that they will vote Democratic as compared to 37 percent who will vote for Republicans.

The poll found that overall, 48 percent of voters want one party to control both the Senate and House, while 43 percent would like it split.

According to Politico, nearly 64 percent of Democrats want complete control, while 30 percent of them want it split.

Meanwhile, 50 percent of Republicans want complete control as compared to 44 percent who want it split. Among independents, 53 percent want complete control and 35 percent want it split.

Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, in a public statement said that the Democratic edge in the so-called congressional ballot is small at this point in the cycle, but there has been a consistent Democratic edge for several months.

According to the report, Brown noted that in April 2009, about the same time ahead of the 2010 midterms, Democrats had a 41 percent to 34 percent lead in a similar poll, but Republicans went on to win a landslide, picking up 63 House seats. (ANI)
