London, Apr.28 (ANI): Cocaine smugglers in Britain have reportedly joined hands with the terror group Al Qaeda to spread cocaine usage in UK and Western Europe worth 168 million pound.
Al Qaeda, along with other groups, has been funding terror plots by using profits from weapons robbed in Libya during the aftermath of Colonel Gadafi's death in 2011, the Mirror reports.
According to the report, the cocaine has also been bought by selling the stolen weapons and it has been found by the US Drugs Enforcement Agency that a South American group has sold a large quantity of the drug to the terror group's North African branch, Al Qaeda of the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).
British intelligence agencies have carried out operations which involved the arrest of two Colombians suspected to be drug traffickers.
British intelligence sources said that France will provide to be the main entry point for the Al Qaeda shipments, with particular interest in US.
An African Admiral and six others have been charged with drug trafficking, while four others face terrorism charges.
The accused have confessed that they had supplied ground-to-air missiles, AK-47 assault rifles and grenade launchers in exchange for four tons of cocaine with a street value of 168 million pound.
While AQIM has been long associated with drug traffickers and consignments worth millions, crime-intelligence authorities insisted that this is the first time Al Qaeda is itself trafficking cocaine into Europe. (ANI)
