Tokyo Skytree Tower, a technological marvel

Tokyo , Tue, 23 Apr 2013 ANI

Tokyo, April 23 (ANI): At 634 meters, the Tokyo Skytree is the tallest tower in the world next to Burj Khalifa in the UAE.

It holds the record for the tallest broadcasting tower ever, and is Japan's main tourist spot, attracting 20,000 visitors every day.

The tower, operated by TOBU Tower Sky Tree Co. Ltd., is a technological marvel which has high-speed and large capacity elevators.

Installed by Toshiba, a world-leader in high-speed elevator technology, the four shuttle elevators take 40 visitors each to the 'viewing deck' located at a height 350 meters in just 50 seconds.

The Skytree Tower, which covers a sprawling entertainment complex including shops, restaurants, an aquarium and a planetarium, uses geothermal heat system to maintain the inside temperature of the building.

The conventional source heat system takes heat from the ground using a water source heat pump.

It helps save 48 per cent energy.

"We are here in this heating and cooling system produced by EBARA. It efficiently produces cold and hot water for central air conditioning of Tokyo Sky Tree Town and surrounded buildings. It is called High-efficiency Centrifugal Refrigerating Machine; it generates cold water for air conditioning. This machine has the world's top thermal energy performance. It can generate 6.4 times heat energy, said

Konno Shinichirou, Managing Director, TOBU Energy Management Co. Ltd.

In the tower people can get a range of experiences- from being up there in the sky, to being under the sea.

The Sumida Aquarium, which is operated by ORAX Corporation, attracts on an average 6,000 people every day.

The trained aquarium staff answers queries of the visitors to educate and entertain them.

The Sumida Aquarium is an urban-type aquarium where one can come in contact with approximately 400 species, a total of about 10,000 living creatures.

With the concept "Life's cradle - water, and its nurturing," the entire facility is a big cradle that nurtures Life and is a place where one can go to experience the "Life of living creatures" and the 'Water' that nurtures them, without leaving the city. (ANI)
