Islamabad, April 19 (Xinhua-ANI): Pakistani Senate on Friday unanimously passed a resolution, demanding the government to remove portraits of former president Pervez Musharraf from all public buildings.
The resolution was put forward by senator Ishaq Dar of the opposition Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The resolution was adopted by the upper house of parliament hours after Musharraf surrendered to police and was produced in the court of a judicial magistrate.
The Islamabad High Court ordered his arrest on Thursday for imposing house arrest on nearly 60 judges when he declared emergency rule in 2007.
The Senate condemned Musharraf for fleeing the Islamabad High Court to avoid arrest after his plea for bail extension was rejected by the court.
The Senate also called for implementation of its previous resolution demanding high treason trial of Musharraf on his return.
The Judicial Magistrate, Abbas Shah, granted a two-day transit remand to the police to question him about his role in detention of judges.
Musharraf's spokesman, Dr. Amjad, said that Musharraf voluntarily surrendered to the court, dispelling the impression that he was arrested.
Musharraf, who seized power in a coup in 1999 and resigned in August 2008 to avoid impeachment by the parliament, denied all charges and vowed to defend himself in courts.
He returned to Pakistan last month after over four years of self-imposed exile in Britain and the UAE to lead his All Pakistan Muslim League in the May 11 parliamentary elections. (Xinhua-ANI)
