Eighth Chinese death from H7N9 bird flu

Nanjing (China), April 9 (Xinhua-ANI): A man confirmed to have caught H7N9 bird flu died on Tuesday in east China's Jiangsu Province, bringing the death toll from the virus to eight nationwide, authorities said.

The 83 year old surnamed Shen died in hospital on Tuesday afternoon despite medical efforts, according to a statement issued by the provincial health department.

It said Shen was a native of Wujiang District in the city of Suzhou. He went to a local hospital on March 20 with flu-like symptoms and was diagnosed to have caught H7N9 bird flu on April 2. (Xinhua-ANI)
