Malaysia urges restraint on Korean Peninsula

Kuala Lumpur, Sun, 07 Apr 2013 ANI

Kuala Lumpur, April 7 (Xinhua-ANI): The Malaysian government on Sunday urged all parties on the Korean Peninsula to exercise self-restraint to avoid further deterioration of the situation.

In a statement released on Sunday, Foreign Minister Anifah Aman urged all parties to stop actions deemed to be provocative by the other side.

Pointing out the potential impact on Korean Peninsula and the neighboring regions if the tension is not curtailed immediately, Anifah said all the conflicting parties should immediately cease making statements and taking actions that could worsen the situation.

The statement called for dialogues and negotiations as immediate measures to restore calm and reduce tensions.

Malaysia believes that all efforts should be aimed at reaffirming the commitment to maintaining regional peace and security and establishing a peaceful environment on the peninsula, the statement said.(Xinhua-ANI)
