'Kahaani', 'Barfi!' lead TOIFA technical awards

Vancouver, April 6 (IANS) Vidya Balan-starrer "Kahaani" and "Barfi!", which starred Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, picked the the maximum awards in technical categories at the debut edition of the Times Of India Film Awards (TOIFA) here.

The technical awards were announced Friday at a night full of fun, fashion and glamour.

"Kahaani", directed by Sujoy Ghosh, won the best editing (Namrata Rao), best story (Advaita Kala and Sujoy Ghosh), and the best screenplay (Sujoy Ghosh) awards.

Meanwhile, "Barfi!", an Anurag Basu-directorial, received the honours in cinematography (S Ravi Varman), costume design (Aki Narula and Shafalina), art direction (Rajat Podar) and backgorund score (Pritam).

Other than these two movies, Ganesh Acharya won the best choreography for the song "Chikni chameli" from "Agneepath". "Gangs of Wasseypur 1" won the best dialogue award, which was received by Anurag Kashyap, Akhilesh Jaiswal, Zeishan Quadri and Sachin Ladia.

Kvsanjit won the best special effect award for the film "Raaz 3", while "Ek Tha Tiger" was named for the best action. Conrad Palmisano and Markos received the award. Anita Khushwaha got the best sound recording award for "Taalash".

Some of Bollywood's known names gathered for the event, held as a prelude to main TOIFA night, to be held Saturday. The technical awards ceremony was co-hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar and actress Chitrangada Singh.

Salman Yusuff Khan of "Dance India Dance" fame set the stage on fire with his energetic performance, while a dash of fashion was also added to the event by designer Manish Malhotra, whose special showcase celebrated 100 years of Indian cinema.

The designer had five Bollywood beauties, including Urmila Matondkar, Raveena Tandon, Neha Dhupia, Nargis Fakhri and Sonal Chauhan, walk for him.
